History of Allotments

Halsnead Allotments used to be the old school.

The old school

The school was set on fire and demolished. It was then used as a dumping ground for rubbish and a place for antisocial behaviour..

After the fire

In 2011 a group called Local Solutions received funding and the old school was one of three areas transformed into allotments

Newspaper reporting the fire

Ours is the only one of these left. This was when the group was formed in 2011.

When the member of staff who was running the allotments retired a few years ago – Tina took over the running of it with other volunteers.

Back in 2022 Tina and her volunteers were approached by Denise and Terry with the aim of setting up the Social Supermarket.
